Rapper from San Antonio is making waves together with his gaming inspired music
Rapper Richie Branson is really a well-known character in San Antonio’s music community. As a music producer, he's got found recent success working together with major label clientele including Def Jam Recordings and Sony Music Entertainment. Richie’s production is comparable to most industry production, but what really makes him be noticeable is his style being an artist. San Antonio’s hip-hop scene contains music that is not too distinctive from the hard-hitting southern club-friendly music of Houston or Dallas. What sets Richie aside from most artists inside the Dallas music scene will be the material of many of his songs. While Richie’s catalog has a lot of typical mainstream hip-hop songs, his favorite subject material happens to be video games.

Over the years, video game rap has changed into a popular hip-hop subculture known as “nerdcore”. While Richie embraces this subculture as part of his videogame-inspired raps, he calls his or her own style “nerdcool” as a result of his capability to cross interior and exterior mainstream music: “Sometimes I’m a nerd making music for that nerds, sometimes I’m a nerd making music for everybody” he admits that. When Richie isn’t doing industry work beneath the tutelage of his manager/mentor Kevin Peli, he’s gaming and rapping on them. He's been gaining a good amount of notoriety from his recent game-related recordings. Certainly one of his current projects, “Cold Republic”, can be a mixtape committed to one of his favorite video games: The exorcist: The existing Republic. After releasing several songs in the project on YouTube, Richie’s music was featured over a selection of major gaming sites including AOL’s Joystiq.com. The music in the “Cold Republic” generated a lot buzz inside the gaming community that longtime Alien videogame composer Mark Griskey even co-signed Richie’s creative work.

Richie’s unorthodox creativity places him inside a different lane than many people making music in Dallas. He will not follow any sort of formula for musical success and instead, he marches towards the beat of their own drum. He is unique in his ability to shine on both mainstream hip-hop songs and the videogame-inspired music he loves to create. Basically, he simply wants to prove a place that artist should make music in what they personally love, not whatever they think others do.
